Cold weather can be one of the toughest challenges on a masonry site. Low temperatures, frost, and the freeze–thaw cycle all create risks for mortar strength, brick durability, and site safety. This course has been designed to give bricklayers, supervisors, and contractors the knowledge and techniques to keep work moving while maintaining quality standards during winter conditions.
Through a mix of video lessons, real-world examples, quizzes, and downloadable resources, you’ll learn how to protect mortar, cover and store materials, use admixtures and accelerators effectively, and prevent frost damage on site.
By the end of this course, you will:
Understand how frost affects mortar and masonry
Recognise the freeze–thaw cycle and its long-term impact
Apply best practices for covering and protecting materials
Use additives and accelerators correctly in cold weather
Work safely and maintain compliance on winter sites
Duration: Approx. 3 hours (including quizzes and downloads)
